This isn’t a comprehensive list of models I recommend. These are the lights that I keep and use for my own illumination needs outside of reviews. I’m not one for large collections, so I only keep my favorites.

EDC: Zebralight SC65c HI
This is widely considered one of the best EDC flashlights money can buy. So, I bought one and am trying it out. The UI is a bit quirky but the size, weight, and beam are ideal for EDC.

Tacticool: Surefire G2X Pro with Thyrm Switchback
I love the Switchback. It’s just fun. G2X Pro is my favorite host I’ve tried because of its matching black plastic body, tacticool looks, and dead simple two-mode UI. I use a rechargeable 16650 cell instead of two CR123As.

Colors: Skilhunt MiX 7 Gen 2 Plus
This is the light I grab any time I need high-CRI or non-white light. Red, Green, Blue, UV, or even an RGB mixture. I love having all those colors built into one compact package.

Thrower: Nitecore MT2C Pro
This goes in my pocket when I’ll need to see far away. It’s one of the furthest throwing lights in this size class while being sleek and easy to carry. I love the screw-on pocket clip and forward clicky switch. Big throwers are cool, but MT2C Pro does everything I need from a thrower.

Pocket Blaster: Nitecore EDC37
The brightness to size ratio is jaw-dropping, if short-lived. It’s too bulky for regular carry but if I think I might need to light up a field during an evening walk, I bring this.

Headlamp: Nitecore NU20 Classic
USB-C charging, three beams, and a battery indicator for under $25 and under 40 grams. I can wear it for hours without discomfort and it does everything I need. The only downsides are a weird UI and built-in battery.

Lantern: Olight Olantern Stretch
With its good looks, soft & warm LED color choices, glare-eliminating shade, intuitive rotary knob, and USB-C charging in/out, this serves all my lantern needs. I love the stretch mechanism to raise it up and light up a larger area.

Olight Warrior 3S
I love the looks of this light and carried it for nearly a year. Now it serves as a size/beam comparison in my reviews and also helps keep my measuring equipment calibrated. It’s also part of a black & red set of EDC gear I carry occasionally.
Miscelaneous other lights: These are lights I don’t consider part of my core collection, and I would not replace if they were lost/damaged or if I weren’t a reviewer.
- Olight i3E: I have a few of these that were freebies. I keep them around to lend to people.
- Olight Sphere: I got three of these from Olight for review or as gifts. Two of them still work and I keep them around for my kids to play with.
- Mini Maglite 2AA and Maglite 2C: These are old incandescents I got second hand. They’re just for size comparison in reviews.
